What is Spinal Decompression?
Spinal Decompression is a non-surgical, non-invasive and cost effective treatment for disc problems in the back and neck. Those who suffer with back and neck pain commonly experience numbness, tingling, weakness, pain and diminished function in the legs or arms. Such extremity symptoms often occur when the central jelly-like material inside a spinal disc breaks through the protective outer rings of the disc itself.
Spinal Decompression Therapy is the utilization of computerized, traction-like technology which creates a negative pressure inside the damaged disc. As this technique is applied, the change in disc pressure draws the disc material that has moved out of the disc center back inside the disc which takes the pressure off the nerves. Subsequently, correction of back and leg as well as neck and arm pain occurs. Further, spinal decompression creates the needed healing of the disc by further stimulating increased blood flow, oxygenation and nutrient exchange in the disc itself.
What Makes SpineMED® the World’s Most Advanced Non-Surgical Decompression System?
More Effective
It is commonly recognized that achieving decompression depends upon the ability to distract the spine without eliciting reflex muscle contractions or spasms. SpineMED®’s advanced computer-controlled biofeedback response adjusts distractive forces at an astounding rate of 20 milliseconds (the human neurological response is approximately 50 milliseconds), or 50 times per second. Old designs utilizing pelvic harnesses and nylon strap systems simply cannot react and adjust tensions at this incredible speed. This ability to almost instantly sense and adjust tensions is a key difference that distinguishes SpineMED® Decompression from other devices and conventional traction.
Additionally, SpineMED®’s has a patented, adjustable patient positioning feature. This accurately moves the focal point of distraction, allowing SpineMED® to accurately isolate and decompress very specific spinal segments. With increased specificity and a more efficient capture, SpineMED® is engineered to achieve optimum decompression. Older technologies attempt this by raising or lowering the traction box within their tower design. The ability to decompress specific spinal segments through patient positioning allows the use of lower forces which greatly increases patient comfort and suitability, particularly with acute patients and the growing geriatric population.
SpineMED® also incorporates built-in Infrared Light Therapy in the lumbar section of the System to help relax paravertebral tissues and promote cellular activity to accelerate healing.
Who Can SpineMED® Help?
SpineMED® provides a non- surgical, drug-free procedure for patients suffering from:
- Bulging disc
- Herniated disc
- Degenerative disc disease
- Posterior Facet syndrome
- Sciatica
- Post-surgical patients
- Spinal Stenosis
- Non-specified mechanical low back or neck pain
Does it Hurt?
Not at all! The procedure is performed with the patient fully clothed and has been described as safe and pain-free. In fact, it is not uncommon for patients to fall asleep during the procedure. With the elimination of outdated harnesses and direct capture of the pelvis with the patented restraints, SpineMED® decompression protocols call for a fraction of the force required with previous devices. For example, the average protocol for a 200lb patient on SpineMED® is 60lbs of force, compared with over 110lbs on older devices. SpineMED®’s lower force requirements dramatically increase patient comfort and tolerance while virtually eliminating any risk of exacerbations or other negative side effects. Additionally, SpineMED®’s pelvic restraints apply an indiscernible pressure against the pelvis, and an inflatable air bladder supports the patient’s natural lordosis to dramatically improve comfort during the procedure.
To promote relaxation, SpineMED® includes a DVD/CD player with headphones and an adjustable flat panel monitor. You can watch DVDs, listen to music, or monitor the progress of your session.

What other doctors are saying about Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy:
“There is a place for surgery, but definitely not at the front line. Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression Therapy should be a front-line treatment for chronic back pain patients suffering from bulging, herniated, or degenerative disc disease, and facet syndrome.
As a surgeon, I only want to do surgery when I absolutely have to. Spinal Decompression Therapy gives my patients a more conservative treatment option that can eliminate the need for surgery altogether, and that’s a very good thing.
Spinal Decompression Therapy also gives me a treatment option for those patients who have had surgery and have a relapse or experience a return of pain following surgery. It allows me to offer patients a key, non-surgical weapon in the war on back pain.” Bernard Zeliger DO, FACOS, FAOAO, FICS – Osteopathic Physician and Surgeon, Founding Dean and Provost of Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Vallejo, CA

“As an interventional pain physician, I feel that Spinal Decompression Therapy has filled a void in our continuum of treatment for those patients suffering from back and neck pain associated with disc pathology. The majority of the other procedure I perform, such as injections and nerve blocks, treat the pain due to tissue and nerve irritation, which only reduce the patients’ pain. My enthusiasm for Spinal decompression Therapy stems from the fact that it it the only therapy that scientifically attempts to heal and “rejuvenate” the discs. My personal experience with this non-invasive therapy is that qualified patients will show improvement within the first few treatments.” Juan J. Gargiulo MD -Southampton, NY East End Pain Management

“Neurologists like myself have long known that we should do everything possible to help our patients avoid back surgery. Now with Spinal decompression Therapy we finally have a very effective way to treat back pain without surgery. The vast majority of even our worst cases experience significant, long-lasting relief if they complete the entire treatment regimen. Anyone who says this is experimental doesn’t know what they’re talking about.” Orlando Maldonado, MD -Bradenton, FL

“We have treated thousands of patients who have experienced long term, pain free healing because of decompression therapy. With non-surgical decompression we offer real modification of the patient’s disc disease processes and rehabilitation of the neuropathic and mechanical symptoms, rather than just offering palliative care. I use it for myself and it is worth its weight in gold.” Phil Fisher DO, PhD -Barboursville, WV
What patients are saying about Spinal Decompression Therapy:
“While contemplating having a 4th surgery due to lumbar back and sciatica pain, I ran across an advertisement for SpineMED® treatment in the local newspaper. After trying so many other type treatments for my back pain, I was very skeptical, but decided to check the website for further information. Much to my surprise I read about a treatment to decompress the spine without surgery – which is the very thing my previous surgeries were supposed to do but without a lot of success! I felt hopeful and decided to call the 800 number for more information. They were able to schedule an initial consultation within a few days. At the consultation, I was able to watch a video and discuss the treatment plan in more detail with the clinic Administrator. After determining via a recent MRI that I was a great candidate for this type of treatment, we began daily sessions on the SpineMED® equipment for the next 30 days. Little by little, my back and leg pain began to decrease to the point where I have very little pain left and have been able to increase my daily activities while decreasing pain medication. I can highly recommend SpineMED® treatment to anyone with low back and sciatica pain who may qualify for this program.” M.P.

“I have a herniated disc between L5-S1. I did it at work, little over a year and a half ago now. After that it was about 2 months before I could go back to work, but after the first two weeks I couldn’t sleep at night because of the pain from that it just kept hurting. My limitations after the injury, when I first injured it, well I was just right off work. I just couldn’t do anything. I couldn’t sleep at night. I couldn’t work, because of your pain your body just told you to shut down and lay down and even then you couldn’t sleep for the first 2-3 weeks until I got physiotherapy (traction) and that relieved pressure so I could sleep at night. But just the plain traction only helped to a degree so I could sleep at night but it still didn’t stop the pain or anything during my working or even just up and during the day. My pain level was still about 5 on 0-10. It just never went away. After about a year and 3-4 months pain was at about 10 again at night. I come home and I couldn’t lift my foot 3 inches to come up the stairs. Family physicians, their suggestions are painkillers and muscle relaxers. I called a specialist. I was ready for an operation. I found out about the SpineMED® treatment through a co-worker who had 2 herniated discs and a bulging disc. He said that the treatment took his pain away. I have had 17 treatments and my pain level is down to a 1 or ½. I know it is helping, I can feel a difference, my sciatic nerve does not hurt like it did and my back is much better. The SpineMED® treatment is painless; you can go to sleep on the machine.” R.N.

“My diagnosis is herniated disc and facets syndrome. I tried other treatments; several physical therapy treatments sessions, but did not see any improvement. I went through the treatment about six months ago. I am 100% better than I was before I came for treatment. I would definitely recommend the SpineMED® treatment to anyone who has pain like I had. It really worked. It was the only thing that worked for me. And to this day I’m pain free … pretty amazing.” D.S.

“I came in with very prolonged and chronic low back pain. I live a very active life and have been a National Park Ranger and Ski Patrolman. There were times when my back would just snap and I would have to crawl into the house. During the treatment there was absolutely no pain, the time on the table was relaxing actually. I have recommended the SpineMED® therapy to several people, and my son has gone through the treatment as well.” C.B

“I had 2 degenerative and bulging discs. I couldn’t really stand up straight, and I always walked bent over in pain, I couldn’t tie up my own shoes. I went through chiropractic treatments, physiotherapy treatments, epidural injections, and nothing seemed to work. Now I feel fine, a lot better than I did before. I would say about 99% better. I can bend over and tie my shoes, I can tolerate a lot of things I couldn’t before. And I’m sleeping at night now! I would recommend the SpineMED® to other people. I always knocked other advertised treatments until I tried SpineMED®, I’m a believer.” J.P.

“My original diagnosis was spinal stenosis. Constant pain day and night, over time able to do less and less. Condition got worse. Went to chiropractors, they weren’t able to do too much for me. Had physiotherapy at the hospital Physio Clinic and they tried traction, just straight traction, and that almost seemed to make it worse. So I just had to grin and bear it and got onto stronger and stronger medication. The Physician said there was absolutely nothing that could be done for spinal stenosis. I think it’s about 8 to 10 years altogether. I couldn’t walk more than a few feet at a time and standing was nil. I either had to move or I had to sit. And most of the time it was sitting. If I could lie down I was OK, but I couldn’t walk more than about 15-20 feet at a time and that was good. Constant pain and I would say from a scale of 0 to 10 that my pain was at least a 9½ all of the time. We (my canes) never left each other; me and the canes were one. Immediately after the treatment I’m feeling pretty good … I would say the pain, on a 0-10 scale, would be maybe a 3, which is a lot better than it was. I would really recommend anyone with a back injury use the SpineMED®. It sure has done a lot for me.” J.S.
